Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met the Lobachevsky University team - the ICPC-2021 world champions in sports programming - while visiting the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR 2023) conference. He talked to Valeria Ryabchikova, a master's student at the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics (IITMM), and the team coach Alexey Shmelev, as well as IITMM students and high school students - participants of the Nizhny Novgorod Olympiad movement.

"The coach of Nizhny Novgorod's champion programmers, Alexey Shmelev, proposed to hold the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad in computer science in Nizhny Novgorod in 2024. The Prime Minister promised to discuss this issue with the Minister in charge, describing our city as a wonderful place that is geared towards science," said Nikolay Zolotykh, Director of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics.

Mikhail Mishustin praised the success of the young people and thanked them for working on interesting and important projects:

"Work for your country! The sovereignty we are building needs smart guys and girls like you."

The Prime Minister recalled that in recent years Russian school students won 32 gold and 11 silver medals in international competitions in general subjects.

It should be pointed out that in October 2021 the team of Lobachevsky University won a cup and a gold medal at the finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), the most prestigious international IT competition.
