UNN researchers’ study on Latin America wins at the international relations competition
Mikhail Rykhtik, Director of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, and Sergei Usachev, the Institute’s Deputy Director for International Affairs, have been announced the winners of the Sergo Anastasovich Mikoyan Competition for the best work of 2025. Their article "The Rivalry between the United States and China in Central America in the Context of Growing Global Tensions" was recognised as the best work in the category of International Relations. The decision was made by the Academic Council of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Editorial Board of the journal "Latin America" based on a survey of readers.
The article was prepared by the faculty members of the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History (IIRWH) as part of the research project "Ensuring the Stability and Security of the Russian Federation in the Eurasian Space in the Context of the Formation of a Multipolar World Order." This project was carried out in 2025 as part of the state assignment of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation by a team of employees from IIRWH and the UNN Institute of Economics.
According to the Russian Academy of Sciences, the research conducted by UNN international relations experts is of a high (strategic) scale, as it goes beyond narrowly focused solutions and covers the macroeconomic and geopolitical levels. Consequently, the results obtained are of strategic importance for ensuring the national security and sustainability of the Russian Federation and its allies in the long term.
