From November 14 to November 18, Barcelona (Spain) hosted the 4th World InterUniversities Championships. The program included student competitions in football, futsal, volleyball, basketball, handball, badminton, swimming, rugby, chess, tennis and table tennis. The event brought together over 3,000 athletes from 71 universities in 31 countries around the world. Lobachevsky University was represented by badminton players and swimmers. In badminton competitions, Ilya Venediktov and Kristina Vyrvich achieved the greatest success becoming champions in the mixed doubles category. In the women's single category, Anna Pyanzina became the bronze medalist of the Championships. In the men's single category, Viktor Kozhanov made it to the finals, but lost in a difficult fight to the strong player Tim Herbruggen from Belgium. Ilya Venediktov won a bronze medal in the men's singles. Kristina Kulchitskaya and Maria Ezekova made a great contribution to the team’s victory, and all this helped the UNN’s team to become the silver medalist of the Championships in the team event. Lobachevsky University swimmers also successfully performed in Barcelona: Anastasia Filatova won the 50m breaststroke event, and Anna Shirmalova got a bronze medal at the same distance.
