An event dedicated to Nowruz, the holiday of spring and the beginning of the new year according to the solar calendar, was held in the Conference Hall of the UNN Fundamental Library.

Nadezhda Shlykova, Head of the UNN Department for International Student Affairs, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks. She emphasised the historical and cultural significance of the holiday, which brings together people from different countries, and wished everyone well-being and success in their studies.

"Nowruz means 'new day'. It is also known as the holiday of the vernal equinox. In Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, as well as in Central Asian countries and many other parts of the world, people gather around festive tables, light candles, forgive offenses, and wish each other well-being. Each nation has its own traditions: some decorate their homes with sprouted wheat, others jump over bonfires, and still others prepare special treats for their loved ones and neighbours. May this holiday bring warmth to your hearts, joy of companionship, and confidence in the future," said Nadezhda Shlykova.

The concert featured musical and dance performances, presentations on the culture and traditions of Nowruz in various countries, a quiz, and poetry reciting. The event was attended by students from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries. Students from the Arzamas branch of Lobachevsky University also participated, showcasing examples of national costumes and dance art.
