UNN students win bronze at the European Badminton Championship
From June 22 to June 29, the European Student Badminton Championship was held in Lodz (Poland). It was attended by 15 strongest university teams from Germany, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Russia. Russia was represented by the teams of the Lobachevsky University and the Ural Federal University.
At the group stage of the Championship team tournament, UNN students played against the teams of the University of Bordeaux (France), the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). In a tense struggle, UNN team scored a confident victory over a team from Spain with a score of 5: 0, but lost to the Swiss team with a score of 2: 3 and the French team with a score of 1: 4. On the final day of the team tournament, the Lobachevsky University team defeated the teams of Germany and Portugal, and the Ural Federal University team defeated the teams of Spain and Slovenia.
In the individual tournament of the Championship, UNN’s Viktor Kokhanov, Anna Pyanzina and Irina Shorokhova played in the 1/8 finals of the single category.
In the men's doubles, the Venediktov-Kokhanov couple reached the quarter finals. In the mixed doubles, the Kokhanov-Kulchitskaya pair also reached the quarter finals, and the Venediktov-Pyanzin pair reached the 1/8 finals.
The best result in the women's doubles category was shown by the Pyanzina-Kulchitskaya couple who reached the semifinals and won bronze medals.
