UNN students win prizes at the historical fencing tournament

Lobachevsky University students took part in the All-Russian historical fencing tournament “Level One: Strelka”. The competition was held in several categories: Longsword (men, women), Sabre (men, women), Renaissance Rapier (general category). Among the participants were more than 100 students from the region's universities: Nizhny Novgorod RANEPA Branch, Privolzhsky Research Medical University, Nizhny Novgorod Technical University, and Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod. Lobachevsky University was represented by the students of its Institute of Biolgy and Biomedicine, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Institute of International Relations and World History, Institute of Economics and Faculty of Law.

Historical fencing is distinguished from other fencing styles by its spectacular nature and variety of techniques. In the Longsword category, UNN students were among the contest winners: Alexander Vasinkin (Faculty of Physical Education and Sports) got a gold medal, and Anastasia Tsvetkova (Institute of International Relations and World History) won bronze.

The event was organised by the Youth Branch of the Russian Historical Society, based at the Lobachevsky Institute of International Relations and World History, with the assistance of students from other UNN faculties.
