A meeting of Lobachevsky University’s Supervisory Board with the participation of Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Ayrat Gatiyatov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev and Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region Evgeny Lyulin was held on April 5, 2022. Gleb Nikitin, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, who chairs the UNN Supervisory Board, presided over the meeting.

"One of the main results of 2021 was Lobachevsky University's victory in the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership programme. We successfully passed the competitive selection of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, having received the basic and special part of the grant for the "Research Leadership" track. Now this is being translated into specific research and educational projects, all faculties have joined the programme, everyone has seen the opportunities for development," reported Elena Zagaynova.

The total research funding for Lobachevsky University is about 1.5 billion roubles.

"We have been stable in receiving non-budgetary funds for research, the publication activity of our scientists has increased, three of Lobachevsky University's scientific publications are now included in Scopus, so taking into account the sanctions and restrictions we are ready to give all Russian scientists the opportunity to publish with us," the Rector emphasised.

With the aim of commercialising research results, a regional Technology Transfer Centre (TTC) was established at the University in 2021, which brings together scientific, educational organisations and real sector companies. During the last year, 19 patents and 11 invention certificates were received, and 3 license agreements were signed with the CTT support.

More than 40 new educational programs were opened at Lobachevsky University last year, the number of state-funded places increased by almost a thousand and the total number of students exceeded 27 thousand.

"We opened a residency programme in four medical specialties, as well as Masters programmes in cyber psychology, information design and artificial intelligence. The university has obtained a licence for a secondary general education programme and, as a result, a Specialised Science Education Centre has been launched at the Balakhna branch for school students in grades 10-11, with 44 talented schoolchildren studying there. This is our new stage in developing the research potential of children and young people," said Elena Zagaynova.

As part of the digital transformation of Russian education, about a hundred UNN educational standards have been updated, and digital competencies have been incorporated into 150 educational programmes.

" Lobachevsky University's open online courses are very popular. More than half of the 6000 learners are from other universities, and this is one of the main indicators that our educational programmes are in demand," the Rector noted.

The University is also actively developing additional professional education programmes as part of the national projects "Demography", "Education", and "Digital Economy". More than 10,000 participants have been trained, and 59 new educational programmes were launched in 2021 alone.

The Supervisory Board unanimously adopted the Rector's report on the results of the University' work in 2021.
