On 10 November, Lobachevsky University took part in the Russian-Korean Conference on Cooperation Development in Shipbuilding between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Korea Business Community, organized by the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation. During the meeting between the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation and the Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA), a cooperation agreement was signed and Russian-Korean interaction was discussed. The meeting was attended by over 50 participants representing Russian and Korean shipbuilding companies.

Representatives of Lobachevsky University and the Volga Water Transport University were invited to take part on behalf of specialised institutions of higher education and the Nizhny Novgorod academic community. The Korean side expressed its interest in partial localisation of production in the Nizhny Novgorod region to launch joint construction of modular ships. At the same time, Mr. Namyoung Kang, Head of the KOMEA representative office in Russia, noted the existence of a language barrier and the need to get acquainted with the Russian specifics of doing business and business communications as some of the possible risks.

In his response to the debate, Konstantin Kemaev, Head of the UNN International Cooperation Office, expressed the readiness of Lobachevsky University to provide Russian language training to Korean engineers and technicians under a tailor-made programme, and to train them in business communications and doing business in Russia in the framework of the existing English-language programme "Business & Society in Russia". In case of mutual interest, joint R&D cooperation with Korean shipbuilders in the fields of mathematical computing, 3D modelling, mechanics, acoustics and programming may be considered.
