On August 21, the UNN SURA heating facility (the world's only high power receiving and transmitting facility of this kind) will send a greeting radio postcard, which can be received and decoded into the image by radio amateurs across at least half the globe. The postcard will provide a link between the city's 800th birthday and the University's 105th birthday:

- Nizhny Novgorod CITY 800 / since 1221 / wins 100%

- Lobachevsky UniverSITY 105 / since 1916 / science 100%

The SURA will broadcast on the frequency of 4300 kHz on 21 August 2021 with the highest possible power between 11.00 - 12.00 and 16.00 - 17.00 (Moscow time). During these hours, the picture will be broadcast in different slow-scan television (SSTV) modes. Radio amateurs who have FM receivers capable of tuning to the facility's 4300 kHz frequency will be able to receive the postcard. But even without special equipment, a network receiver working on WEBSDR technology and an ordinary smartphone or computer could be used. To decode the image, you will need the "Robot36" mobile app (for Android) or "SSTV Slow Scan TV" (for iPhone) or the PC application "MMSSTV".

UNN’s Radiophysics Research Institute invites radio operators (amateurs and those of other services), as well as everyone interested in radio from Russia and from foreign countries to take part in the reception of signals from the unique research facility SURA. In reply to the signal registration reports, confirmation cards will be sent out. Those who send the most valuable reports, selected by a specially formed committee, will receive gifts bearing the logo of the SURA facility. Regardless of where you live, if you receive and transcode our greeting card, let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
