The second scientific seminar "Ways and functions of representing kinship in medieval texts" was held at Lobachevsky University on October 17. The seminar was organized by the UNN Centre for Interdisciplinary Anthropological and Socio-cultural Studies and brought together (in online format) representatives of Lobachevsky University, RAS Institute of World History, Moscow Pedagogical University, Tomsk State University, Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University and Shchusev Museum of Architecture.

During the seminar, participants presented their reports on various aspects of kinship relationships in medieval societies of Scandinavia, Western Europe and Rus'. 

Nizhny Novgorod researchers made the following reports: 

  • · Vladimir Blonin "Family and kinship relations and their regulation: a comparative analysis of the Frankish and Old Russian legal monuments"; 
  • · Yulia Vershinina "The concept of domus in the "Ecclesiastical History of the English People" and its translation into Old English: semantic changes and functional features"; 
  • · Andrei Kuznetsov "Boyar wives of Russian princes in the 12th and the first third of the 13th centuries"; 
  • · Artyom Maslov "The adventure of Ulysses and the theme of patricide in medieval tales of the Trojan War". 

The materials of the seminar will be published in the "Vestnik of Lobachevsky University".
