On May 10, the XVI International Choir Festival "Young Voices - 2018" was opened at the Armorial Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod Trade Fair. The event was attended by Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Dmitry Svatkovsky and UNN Rector Evgeny Chuprunov. More than 800 representatives of student and youth choirs, laureates of national and international competitions take part in the festival. They represent Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Saratov, Yaroslavl, Yoshkar-Ola, and Heraklion (Greece). The venues of the festival are the Armorial Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod Trade Fair, the A.S. Pushkin Opera and Ballet Theater, the Great Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire named after M.I. Glinka, and the Old Assembly Hall of the Nizhny Novgorod State University.
A number of leading conductors of the world choral community will hold their master classes during the festival: Lyudmila Litsova (Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, Head of the Department of Conducting and Head of the Academic Choir of the Saratov State Conservatory named after L.V. Sobinov), Raul Talmar (President of the Estonian Choral Association, Estonia), Susanne Faatz (head and conductor of the JazzVocals group, Berlin, Germany), Sergey Yekimov (Professor of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, art director of the Concert Choir of the Institute of Culture and the Women's Choir of the St. Petersburg Music College named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov).
The festival of student choirs "Young Voices" has been held at Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod State since 1983. In 2010, the festival was awarded the Nizhny Novgorod Prize. Artistic director of the festival is Larisa Yerykalova, conductor of the Lobachevsky University Academic Choir, laureate of Nizhny Novgorod Prize. In 2018, the festival is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire named after M.I. Glinka. The gala concert took place on May 13 at the Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theater.
