The youth school "Mathematics and IT - Together into the Digital Future" was held at the Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics of Lobachevsky University. A total of 150 applications were received from IT and mathematics students representing 20 universities of the Volga Federal District. School participants met with Lobachevsky University scientists and leading practitioners from Russian and international IT companies in the online format.  Taking part in the communication with students were representatives of Huawei Russian Research Institute, Globus, Itseez3D, Intellivision, xperience.ai, VTB School of Risk Management, and Sberbank.

"A wonderful event! I really enjoyed the fact that everything was really on time, it didn't drag on, and the lecturers were very interesting! Thank you very much!" - the participants wrote in the feedback questionnaire after the programme.

"Thank you for an interesting event. A definite plus in looking at the application of machine learning in different areas. I would like to attend a school with a 'more mathematical' focus in the future," added one of the attendees.

The Youth School also included a competition for research projects in mathematics and information technology. The best works were awarded prizes. The winner of this competition was Anna Korotysheva, a student at Lobachevsky University, with her project "Analysis and processing of traffic data using machine learning methods."

Second place was shared by Mikhail Matveev from the Chuvashia State University with the project "Training a neural network to recognise obstacles on a pedestrian road" and Tatiana Kupriyanova from the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Engineering with the project "Development of a smart lamplight with integration into the Yandex ecosystem".

"We hope that our Youth School will develop and become an annual event, and that it will expand its geography beyond the Volga Federal District, attracting students from all over the country," said Nikolay Zolotykh, Director of the UNN Institute of Information Technology, Mathematics and Mechanics.
