The cycle of charity concerts "The Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State University presents..." became the winner of the Nizhny Novgorod-2023 Prize. This was announced at the award ceremony, which took place on August 17, at the Mayak Academy. The project of Lobachevsky University became one of the winners in the category "Cultural Education" (19 projects were entered in total). Overall, a record number of 189 applications in 16 different categories were submitted for the award in 2023.

According to Oleg Trofimov, Acting Rector of Lobachevsky University, the tradition of holding a series of charity concerts "The Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State University presents..." in the UNN’s Old Auditorium celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022.

"Over the years, more than 315 concerts have been held, attended by more than 90 thousand Nizhny Novgorod residents and guests of our city. There were full houses for all concerts. More than 150 Russian and foreign performers and groups presented their concert programmes to the audience: from classics to modern works, from medieval and baroque music on historical instruments to choral and jazz programmes, and silent film screenings with musical accompaniment. The project is not just educational; it has long ago become a brand in the cultural space of the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is the most prominent manifestation of the university's third mission," summarised Oleg Trofimov.

According to him, classical musicians from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Saratov and other Russian cities are eager to perform in the UNN acoustic hall. The subscription concerts are free of charge for the listeners.

It should be noted that the tradition of concerts in the Old Auditorium of Lobachevsky University (37 Bolshaya Pokrovskaya St.) was established in 2002 by Rector Alexander Khokhlov. The concert series has not been interrupted for a single season ever since. The subscription includes 14 to 20 charity concerts from September to May. In 2022, the concerts under the project "The Rector of Nizhny Novgorod State University presents..." were attended by residents of Donbass.
