On August 16, Lobachevsky University hosted a delegation from Jinan (China), the twin city of Nizhny Novgorod. During the visit, Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking, met with Mr. Li Yong, Director of the Shandong Centre for Cultural and Educational Exchange between Sister Cities, Director of the Sister City Travel Agency, and Mr. Song Gao, Head of the Administrative Office of the Institute of Foreign Languages at University of Jinan.

The visit of the Chinese delegation was arranged within the framework of the celebration of the Day of Nizhny Novgorod and the international forum "Sister and Partner Cities".

The participants of the meeting discussed the opening of an economic, cultural, educational and tourist centre in Jinan, as well as the prospects of cooperation between Lobachevsky University and educational institutions of Jinan. In particular, the representatives of the Chinese delegation expressed their interest in establishing a centre for teaching the Russian language with the participation of UNN faculty, as well as in attracting Chinese students for studies in the such areas of study as clinical medicine, dentistry, medical rehabilitation, and art.

According to Alexander Bedny, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Networking, Lobachevsky University has 15 faculties, six research institutes, almost four thousand employees and about 27 thousand students. Throughout its 107-year history, UNN has traditionally been involved in a wide range of cutting-edge and innovative projects.

"We have a very strong Institute of Philology and Journalism, which trains highly qualified Russian teachers, we actively participate in many programmes to provide Russian language courses for foreign citizens, including programmes jointly run with our partners, which include Chinese universities. As of today, there are already 11 Chinese universities among our partners, and we will be glad to establish our partnership with the city of Jinan," summarized Alexander Bedny.
