Oleg Trofimov, Acting Rector of Lobachevsky University, emphasized that the University was not an accidental choice as a platform for implementing this large-scale educational project:

"We have been active in the field of youth tourism for many years. Since 2010, the Centre for Tourism Education, Research and Interaction with the Tourism Industry has been functioning our Institute of International Relations and World History, carrying out research, developing and implementing educational programmes and community projects. On the eve of 2024, when Nizhny Novgorod will hold the title of Russia’s Cultural Capital, our University, for its part, will certainly provide suggestions for interesting routes and programmes of historical significance".

On the first day of the event, the programme participants got acquainted with the trends of tourism development for youth, with the technology of developing socially useful youth tourism itineraries, designing complex tourist products by destination, and much more. In addition, Veronika Belyaeva, Head of the Centre for Tourism Education, Research and Interaction with the Tourism Industry at the UNN Institute of International Relations and World History, presented the experience of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the professional training of tour guides.

"Popular science tourism attracts young people to science, allows them to learn about the achievements of our country's scientists. Lobachevsky University was one of the first universities to join the federal programme of popular science tourism for young people. Certainly, it is very important for us to hold this event and share our experience with colleagues from other universities," said Anton Konakov, member of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Presidential Council for Science and Education.

The second day’s programme included training in a number of disciplines covering various aspects of youth tourism, case studies and presentation of the participants’ projects. All those taking part in the programme received professional development certificates.
