UNN Choir wins three awards at 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Choir Festival in China
The choir of Lobachevsky University has won three top awards of the Third International Choir Festival-Competition "21st-century Maritime Silk Road Choir Festival" held from 17 to 21 November 2023 in Haikou, Hainan Province, China. More than one hundred choirs from Russia, Romania, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Indonesia and China took part in the international competition.
Five teams from Russia, China and the Philippines qualified for the Grand Prix of the choir festival. At the conclusion of all competition tests, performances and concerts, the Nizhny Novgorod choir of Lobachevsky University received a gold diploma in the Popular Music category, gold diplomas and the status of winners in the Folklore and Mixed Choirs categories.
"We had a very strenuous and very busy programme: we spent four days practically without rest, in tension and excitement. In addition to rehearsals and competition tests, there were friendly concerts together with other choirs participating in the festival. For us, this was the first trip to an international competition outside Russia in the last five years (the last trip was in 2018 to South Africa). It was very important to confirm our status, and we have confirmed it," said Larisa Erykalova, artistic director and conductor of the UNN choir.
Larisa Erykalova thanked the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin, Deputy Governor Oleg Berkovich, Minister of Youth Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod region Svetlana Anufrieva and the management of Lobachevsky University for the opportunity to represent Russia and the region at this large-scale international competition.
The Third International Choir Competition "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" is a large-scale international event in the world of choral art. It is held for the purpose of international cultural exchange in general and for promoting choral culture.
