SELL Games 2017: UNN athletes’ unprecedented success

A sports delegation of Lobachevsky University for the 12th time took part in the International Baltic Games (XXXIII SELL STUDENT GAMES) in Riga (Latvia) from May 19 to May 21.
Over 1500 athletes from 65 universities in 12 countries of the world gathered in the capital of Latvia to take part in competitions in 15 sports, including basketball, swimming, badminton, football, volleyball, orienteering, powerlifting, judo, wrestling, and table tennis. The countries that traditionally participate in these games are the Baltic countries, the founders of the Baltic Games: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Finland. This year, sports delegations also came from Germany, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia, Lebanon, China and Russia.
Russia was represented by the Lobachevsky University, the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, the Kalmyk State University and the State Technical University of Ukhta. UNN students participated in the competitions in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, swimming, badminton, table tennis, track and field athletics and volleyball among women's teams.
By winning a total of 27 medals of different denomination, the Lobachevsky University students helped the Russian team to get to the third place after Latvia and Lithuania in the overall standings. This is an unprecedented success of Russia’s national team, and of UNN athletes, in particular.
