Important Documents Needed to Study at UNN.

Action Reason

- A Valid International Passport with at least 2 blank pages and a minimum of 18 months left on it before its expiry

This is the requirement needed according to international practice to use a travel document in order to get an invitation and a visa

- 12 x Passport Sized Photographs

These are needed for various documentation upon your arrival in Russia e.g. Your Student and Dormitory Cards. You may purchase these upon your arrival in Russia

- A Study Contract Signed and Sent back to our Admissions Team

This allows UNN to know that you have accepted our offer of a study place to you and accept our terms and conditions. It is important that you reply back with an answer as soon as possible as we may require the space on the course allocated to you for another student in the case that you decline our offer.

- Payment of Tuition Fees Paid

The University requires that you pay the outstanding tuition fees as stated in your study contact before we can apply for your Student Invitation. Instructions to do this you can find here

- Educational Documents (Apostilled + Translated)

To study at UNN we require that your Educational Documents of the highest level obtained are apostilled (or legalized) and translated (you can translate your documents upon arrival to UNN). More information about apostille and legalization

- Russian State Recognition of your Educational Documents

This may be done through the university upon your arrival

- HIV Certificate

This is needed for your Student Visa and is a document required by UNN in order for you to study in Russia. It is obtainable from your local doctor.

- TB Test Results

This document required by UNN in order for you to study in Russia. It is obtainable from your local Doctor or upon arrival in Russia

- Receiving your Student Invitation Arrangement

In order to receive your Student Invitation you should let the UNN International office know of how you wish to receive it.

- Student Invitation & Student Visa

This is a document issued by the FMS (Federal Migration Service) which allows you to obtain a student Visa. Without this document you cannot obtain a Student Visa. It takes about 6 weeks for the University to get this document on your behalf. Once you receive your Invitation you can then apply for your Student Visa at your nearest Russian Embassy or Consulate. - Transport to Russia

After you receive your Student Invitation you should arrange your transport to Nizhny Novgorod making sure your travel dates match the length of your Visa. Information about how to get Nizhny Novgorod.

- Medical Insurance

It is Russian Law that all International Citizens have some form of medical Insurance during their stay in Russia. You may purchase this in your home country or from the insurance company AlfaStrakhovanie upon your arrival. More information about insurance

- Confirm Your Place of Accommodation before you arrive

Before you arrive double check with the international office that a place in the University Accommodation has been reserved for you in correspondence with your arrival

Preparation for Traveling to UNN

- Inform UNN of your Arrival Date

When you know your arrival date in Russia you should inform the International Students Office of your arrival so that the staff in the Office can prepare everything for your arrival.

- Purchase of Connection tickets or transport route found to get to Nizhny Novgorod (if applicable)

It is important if your arriving into Russia from outside of Nizhny Novgorod e.g. Moscow that you find out prior to when you arrive that you know what mode of transport you will take to get to Nizhny Novgorod, how much it costs and how to take it. If possible buy your connection tickets before you arrive at UNN. Information about how to get Nizhny Novgorod.

- Transport Service to UNN Arranged

Once you arrive in Nizhny Novgorod you should make your way to the University. It is important that you know how to get to UNN from your arrival point within the city. If you don’t want to use public transport UNN can arrange a collection service in Arrival Information Form.

- Set Yourself a Budget

Before you set out you should budget yourself so you know how much you have to spend. This should include your sources of income and how you can access these funds

- Change you money into Rubles

You should change your currency into Rubles before you arrive in Russia as you may need some as soon as you arrive into the country. It is advised that you should also check that your card can work abroad as you may need access to it in regards to emergencies

- Work out how much you need to pay for outstanding fees and plan that into your immediate budget

This is to cover foreseeable debts to the university you must pay before you start studying. This includes things such as Accommodation, Payment of your Invitation Delivery, Outstanding Course Fees, Visa Extension Fees, Medical Insurance, Educational Document Fees

Useful Things to do before you arrive in Russia

- Begin to learn the basics of Russian Language

- Brush up on your cooking skills

- Check travel information and weather warnings before you go

- Find out the reading lists for your course before you arrive

- Applied for any relevant Scholarships your country or UNN have which may be applicable to you

- Informed your Local Authorities such as your bank of your relocation to Russia

- Check Out the UNN Sports Clubs and Societies

- See what is happening in Nizhny Novgorod

- Check the Russian Law on things that may be accustom to you in your country such as Smoking Indoor’s or Driving Legislation

- Double Check that you have all the necessary documents in order to arrive in Russia and to enroll at UNN close to hand at all stages during your journey.
